Cheng, Massimine and Sorel Named to Management Committee

NEW YORK, January 25-The Board of Directors of Minerals Technologies Inc.(NYSE: MTX) today elected three new corporate vice presidents. The Board elected: Allen Cheng, Ph.D., vice president and managing director, MINTEQ International; Kenneth L. Massimine, vice president and managing director, Processed Minerals; and John A. Sorel, vice president and managing director, Paper PCC. The three had been named previously to the company's Management Committee.

"The election of these executives, who oversee Minerals Technologies' three major businesses, indicates the greater operational perspective we are placing on the management of the company," said Paul R. Saueracker, president and chief executive officer.

Dr. Cheng joined the company in 1987 as a Research and Development engineer. He was promoted to senior engineer in 1988 and to technical director in 1994. Dr. Cheng was promoted to vice president, Technology, MINTEQ International in 1995. Before joining the company, Dr. Cheng spent seven years at the Department of Materials Engineering at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He holds a B.S. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from National Cheng-Kung University in Taiwan, and Masters and Doctoral degrees in Materials Engineering from Drexel.

Mr. Massimine joined Minerals Technologies in 1992 as assistant director, Marketing and Technical Service for Lime, Limestone and Talc, and later as director of that department. In 1999, Mr. Massimine was named vice president and general manager of Processed Minerals. Mr. Massimine spent three years at General Chemical Corporation as general manager, Fine Chemicals, before joining Minerals Technologies. Before that he was general manager, Engineered Materials, for American Cyanamid, where he worked for 14 years. While working at American Cyanamid, Mr. Massimine gained international experience while serving as a director in Cyanamid International and also as a managing director for Cyanamid B.V. in the Netherlands for nearly three years.

Mr. Massimine holds a B.S. in Math from Manhattan College in New York and a Masters in Organizational Behavior from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey.

Mr. Sorel joined the Metals, Pigments and Minerals Division of Pfizer Inc in 1973 as assistant controller at the Adams, Massachusetts, facility. Between 1977 and 1982 he was controller at the Lucerne Valley, California, plant. He was named controller, Minerals, in 1982, a position he held until 1989. Mr. Sorel assumed positions of increasing responsibility in both Pfizer and Minerals Technologies Inc., after the latter became an independent company from Pfizer in 1992. These positions include: director of Finance and Business Development; vice president, Minerals-International Operations; vice president and general manager-Satellite PCC; and vice president and general manager-PCC.

Mr. Sorel received an A.S. in Accounting from St. Joseph College in Bennington, Vermont; a B.S. in Business Administration from North Adams State College in North Adams, Massachusetts; and his MBA from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.
