Two Paper Mills to Adopt Unique High-Filler Technology That Will Provide Significant Cost Savings in Reduced Fiber Consumption by Increasing PCC Filler Usage
 ----------

NEW YORK, October 25-Minerals Technologies Inc., (NYSE: MTX) announced today that it has signed two commercial agreements with paper mills in Asia to provide Fulfill(TM) E-325, a new, high-filler product under the Fulfill(TM)  technology platform.

Minerals Technologies now has commercial contracts with four paper mills to supply its Fulfill(TM) E-325 technology, which the company introduced a year ago. The agreements represent further commercial progress of the Fulfill(TM) brand, a portfolio of high-filler technologies that offers papermakers a variety of efficient, flexible solutions that decreases dependency on natural fiber and reduces costs. The Fulfill(TM) E-325 series allows papermakers to increase loading levels of precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) by three to five points, which replaces higher cost pulp, and increases PCC usage between 20 to 30 percent.

"We are very pleased that these two paper mills, which are not identified for competitive reasons, will be applying this new technology in a way that will allow them to produce higher quality paper at lower cost," said Joseph C. Muscari, chairman and chief executive officer. "The commercialization of Fulfill E-325 at two more paper mills adds yet further evidence of the revitalization of our new product pipeline, and of our commitment to advance our technology leadership throughout our satellite network around the world."

"These agreements provide further confirmation of the efficacy of our Fulfill(TM) E-325 technology, which is tailored for specific operational parameters at different papermakers depending on their individual needs," said D.J. Monagle, senior vice president and managing director, Paper PCC. "In addition to the four paper mills that have agreed to apply the technology, we are actively engaged with 15 other paper mill sites for E-325 deployment."

PCC is a specialty pigment for filling and coating high-quality paper. By substituting Minerals Technologies' PCC for more expensive wood fiber, customers are able to produce brighter, higher quality paper at lower cost. In 1986, Minerals Technologies originated the satellite concept for making and delivering PCC on-site at paper mills and the concept was a major factor in revolutionizing papermaking in North America. Today, the company has 54 satellite plants in operation or under construction around the world and continues to lead the industry with consistent quality and technical innovation.
